The Police Certificate in Brief
A police certificate, also called a police clearance certificate or criminal record check, confirms that no criminal record is associated with your name and date of birth in Canada. The search runs through the CPIC, the national police database, which makes it broader than a Quebec court record search (plumitif). Employers, landlords, insurers and government bodies such as IRCC accept it as official proof.
The application costs $56.95 plus taxes and takes minutes to start: complete the online form, pay securely, then answer four identity questions in a secure form sent by email. Your certificate arrives as a PDF within business hours, and the original follows by Canada Post in 3 to 10 business days. You must be 18 or older with a Canadian mailing address. For the full process, see our police certificate (CPIC) page.
FAQ
Do I need to come to Longueuil to get my criminal record check?
No. The application is handled entirely online, wherever you live in Montreal or on the South Shore. The Longueuil office is there if you prefer in-person help, or if your situation calls for fingerprinting, as with applicants under 18.
Do you offer vulnerable sector checks in Montreal?
No. Vulnerable sector checks, along with checks for paid drivers such as taxi and Uber, must be requested through your local police service, such as the SPVM in Montreal. For most employment, volunteering and immigration purposes, our CPIC certificate meets the requirement.
What if I have a criminal record?
The certificate is meant to prove a clean record. If you have one, we strongly recommend a fingerprint-based check instead, available at our Longueuil office by appointment. Call us first and an advisor will confirm what your organization actually needs.
